An already suspect story has just revealed a major plot twist.

A New Jersey couple who went viral for 'helping' a homeless good Samaritan has been dealing with allegations that they scammed him out of a large amount of money that was raised on GoFundMe. The donations were supposedly being raised for his random act of kindness, but reports earlier this year suggested the couple may have kept the bulk of the cash for themselves.

As if the story wasn't sketchy enough at this point, a new complaint obtained by NBC Philadelphia alleges that Mark D'Amico, Kate McClure and Johnny Bobbitt Jr. all conspired to "raise money by deceiving generous donors."

D'Amico and McClure reportedly turned themselves over to authorities on Wednesday.

The GoFundMe page raised over $400,000 from more than 14,000 donors since going viral last fall. Attorneys for Bobbitt filed a lawsuit to try to get the money after they reportedly withheld cash from him because they were worried he was blowing it all on drugs.

On the other hand, Bobbitt was adamant that the couple was spending the money themselves, blowing the cash on cars and luxury vacations. While that may be true, these new details paint a picture where all three had "initially conspired" to make up the whole story, this according to prosecutors.

According to reports, all three will probably end up facing charges including conspiracy and theft by deception.

We'll keep you updated when we have more on this developing story.
