Lafayette Home To World’s Best Music Festival

It looks like we are going to have to make more room in the trophy case as Lafayette and South Louisiana have again claimed another prestigious award. Festival International de Louisiane has been chosen the Best World Music Festival for 2012 by About.com.

This award comes as no shock to those of us who have been a part of "Festival" since its inception 26 years ago.  The beauty of this festival,besides the great international music, is the price. Festival International is free! The cost of festival is underwritten by sponsor commitments, a huger force of volunteers and by sales of the "Festival" pin. This year in addition to the 5 days of music, food, shopping and people watching, "Festival" goers can also compete in the Festival 5k road race.

This award tops off a great month for Lafayette, Acadiana and South Louisiana as a whole. Just in the past couple of weeks we have been awarded the distinction of the South's Tastiest City by Southern Living magazine. The Lafayette area has also received recognition as the Best Food Town in the U.S.A. by Rand McNally. By the way Lafayette Consolidated Government would like you to know we show up very well in areas other than food and fun. Lafayette has been chosen one of the  most optimistic towns in America and one of the towns with the fastest growing household income. If you live here you know what we are all about.
