Lake Charles Museum Has Most Mardi Gras Costumes In The World!
more Mardi Gras costumes that can be found in one place than anywhere in the world!
Museum curator David Faulk says there are at least 70 krewes in southwest Louisiana. Organizers realized many of these treasures were hidden away in closets, and decided to ask their owners to allow them to be displayed so they could be shared and tell the stories of the rich traditions of carnival in the area.
But visitors not only get to see their beauty and appreciate how massive these creations are. They can also see what exactly goes into making them.
Mardi Gras in Louisiana isn't complete without the sweet confection known as king cake! Part of the tour includes a lesson in making one of those, as well.
The museum also offers other interactive displays, a float they can climb aboard, and video of what goes on during the carnival season.
The Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu is located at 809 Kirby Street in the Central School Arts & Humanities Center. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 1PM until 5PM and on Saturday by appointment.
