Lafayette Louisiana is a food town. Louisiana is a food state. We take our food very seriously here down along the bayou. And, while we do enjoy a great meal every chance we get, we do not like to overpay for food that doesn’t deliver the value and experience that we were expecting.

In fact, that’s the main reason a restaurant around Cajun Country would fail. The deadly combination of high prices, poor service, and not so good food at too high of a price will get your doors closed “fast fast”. That’s not to say we don’t mind paying a fair price for food and service that measures up.

And while it’s true Louisiana folks live to eat instead of eating to live, we still are very much against paying too much for substandard food. That’s where online review sites such as Yelp can really be beneficial to someone who is looking for great food at a fair price and that’s close by.

Searching for restaurants on Yelp is something we always do when we travel. So, we thought why not try the same approach closer to home. We queried Yelp and ask for the Best Cheap Eats in or Near Lafayette Louisiana.

The site (Yelp) offered 24 pages of reviews. And to be quite honest, some of the choices that made Yelp’s front page aren’t exactly places I would call “cheap eats”. But I would call every restaurant represented on the site pretty darn good.

What Are Cheap Eats?

I guess “cheap” is in the eye or the wallet of the beholder. As I mentioned, some of the restaurants on the Yelp list are not what I would call “cheap”. The Cooking Channel has a show called Cheap Eats. During the course of that show, the host scours a destination attempting to find breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner all for $35. I am thinking that if we applied the $35 rule to Lafayette’s cheap eats you’d have more than plenty to enjoy and might need a to go box for afterwards.
