The beginning of fall also marks the beginning of a transition for drivers. You may not have been aware but there are actually two blends of gasoline that most of us put in our vehicles every year. There is a summer blend of fuel that we use during the warm weather months and now refineries are making the switch to winter blend of fuel.

Usually these changes in production signify an uptick in prices. This year that doesn't appear to be the case. Another factor that usually contributes to higher prices at the pumps is the state of affairs in the middle east. Currently, the conflict involving the United States and the Islamic State is having very little effect on how much you and I are paying per gallon.

In Louisiana, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is nine cents lower than it was last month. Compared to last year we are paying nineteen cents less for a gallon of fuel. The average cost of a gallon of gas around the country is $3.11 while many stations in Louisiana are actually selling gas for less than $3 per gallon. Industry experts attribute an excess in domestic production as the reason why the price at the pump is significantly less than it was at this time last year.
