The past few days have been a veritable beehive activity for those who work for and with the Louisiana Lottery Corporation. That group has had big money winners on the two multi-state games, Powerball and Mega Millions this week. Plus there have been some other big winners revealed in some of the lottery's other draw and scratch games.

As someone who reports regularly on the Louisiana Lottery, I am often asked, "Where is the best place to buy a lottery ticket?" Basically, what people want to know is should I purchase my Powerball or Mega Millions from a small mom-and-pop store in a small town? Or, should I just purchase my lottery tickets where I buy my groceries and fill up my car? The answer is of course, Yes. Yes, you should.

Actually, I have done some snooping in the Louisiana Lottery results over the past couple of years and you are just as likely to get a winner from a Winn Dixie or a Circle K as you are from an independently owned and operated facility in a smaller town. I guess the only concrete evidence I can present to you about where to purchase your lottery tickets is this.

That map is interactive if you follow this link. It shows where the Louisiana Lottery has awarded some of its larger prizes over the past few months. All I can say is most of the time the winners come from within 50 miles of I-10 but not all the time. That assessment, by the way, is not based on luck it's based on math.

You see more people live within 50 miles of I-10 than live in any other geographic location of the state, so it's more about the numbers than the luck in picking the numbers but speaking of winning. Our first prize to tell you about is this one.

And despite what I told you about "50 miles from I-10" we have a winner from Shreveport. That's the $50,000 winner from Wednesday. By the way, the next Powerball drawing will be on Saturday. The estimated annuitized top prize for Saturday night will be $725 million. The Powerball game hasn't had a jackpot winner since July.

Our next point of purchase reveal comes from New Iberia and it's concerning Tuesday's Mega Millions Lottery drawing.

Congratulations to that lucky ticket holder. Speaking of tickets how about some scratch-off winners?

That's a nice win from a scratcher sold in Abbeville. And here's another big-money winner that was sold in Leesville.

Alright, there is your reset on where the winners are coming from. A reminder there will be a Mega Millions drawing tonight (September 22, 2023). The estimated jackpot in that game will be $205 million. Saturday's Powerball will be worth an estimated $725 million. The Lotto drawing on Saturday will be worth an estimated $650,000. And Saturday's Easy 5 drawing will be for a jackpot of $100,000.
