As a kid in school receiving a good score on a test or evaluation was always are reason to celebrate. This morning many of our state's educators can celebrate the evaluation they received in the Louisiana Department of Education most recent assessment of teacher effectiveness.

State Superintendent of Education, John White,  praised the state's teachers and lauded the 92% effective rating for Louisiana's teachers. Says White, the efforts by school systems that ask more of their teachers who in turn ask more of their students are the  main reasons for the high marks in the assessment .

"Some places are taking it very seriously, they have high expectations when they observe their teachers.  Some places are not taking it as seriously.  And when you take it seriously and you have high expectations for classroom teaching, student learning goes up."

White's comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network.

He went on to say that those school systems who evaluate on a tougher and more strict set of standards are not only seeing improved teacher performance. They are seeing that improvement passed down through the learning process to students. Students who are in classrooms where teachers are held to higher standards usually perform at a higher standard.
