Louisiana Teen to Compete For National Mullet Supremacy

Louisiana is no stranger to the often maligned but just as often celebrated hairstyle The Mullet. There are those that feel the "business in the front, party in the back" hairstyle has no place in today's fashion world. But the fact is this. There has always been a place for The Mullet in fashion and it started long before many of today's trendy fashion magazines were even born.

If you look back in history several famous Americans have sported a Mullet hairstyle. Benjamin Franklin was famously pictured with a short hairstyle in front and long flowing locks in the back. But if you look further into history you'll see the Ancient Greeks were sporting Mullets even before Ben Franklin. That's Ancient Greek musician Tobias of Keith, or maybe it's just Toby Keith rockin' a super sweet Mullet.

There are two schools of thought as to how the mullet acquired its name. One of those links the fashionable hairdo to French designer Henri Mollet. He was all the rage in the early 70s and although his style didn't really catch on back then, he just might have been the first to "officially" sport the style.

We the people of the United States did not really get acquainted with The Mullet until The Beastie Boys released Mullet Head in 1994. That's when the phrase and the style really started to pick up notoriety and was even included in the Oxford Dictionary.

That was then, and this is now.

Aiden Burk of Lake Charles is a teenager who sports a Mullet. Aiden has the kind of Mullet a man can be proud of. It's finely trimmed in the front and features long and flowing locks in the back. Aiden's Mullet is so good he is in the running to become the next Mullet champion on the website Mullet Champ.

Proceeds from the Mullet Champ competition are used to support Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors. So you can see the competition is all American through and through. But is there any real competition for this head of hair? Our man Aiden has got it going on.

How can you support Aiden in his quest for Mullet supremacy? It's as simple as clicking a link on the website and voting. From what we understand Aiden will have to go through several rounds of competition so in true Louisiana style we might need you to "vote early and vote often".

The mullet started as a summer project that turned into a Halloween costume that turned into a chance to make a difference in a mullet contest for Wounded Warriors. This is what South Louisiana does best, having a good time while help out someone else. Aiden and his mom, Juanita, thank you in advance for your support.
