An LSU medical school professor is dead along with his wife after he shot her and turned the gun on himself. The incident happened at the couple's home in Carriere, Mississippi.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage says that 61-year-old Victoria Burton-Claycomb was found dead in their home on Saturday. Her husband, 73-year-old William Claycomb, died the next day at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Turnage says a family friend went to the home and called 911 about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police have not released any details regarding a motive in the shooting.

William Claycomb was a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. According to LSU, he joined the faculty in 1976.
