Lafayette native Mikie Mahtook's MLB career is heading to Michigan.

The former STM Cougar and LSU Tiger has been traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Detroit Tigers for a pick to be named or cash, according to the Rays.

Mahtook made his major league debut in 2015, putting up an awesome stat line (.295/.351/.619) to go along with 9 homers in only 115 plate appearances.

His numbers dipped somewhat in 2016 as he suffered a broken left hand, but there's no denying he's a major league talent who has not reached his ceiling yet as a player.

Mahtook will likely compete for playing time in center field with his former LSU teammate JaCoby Jones.
