Here in Louisiana there are very few things that are "normal". We know more people for their nickname than real name, celebrate everything that crawls, swims or flies with a festival and are pioneers when it comes to drive-thru daiquiri shops.

We're kind of trendsetters.

And when it comes to naming our towns, we are just as creative as the rest of the country.

The folks at Estately have put out a list of unusually named cities, towns, and unincorporated communities in every state in the U.S.

It appears that in this country we have been using various methods to name towns. Some chose to name it after a place they've lived before, some after a local geographical feature, and then there are those who name their town so weird that they've ensured their town sign be stolen for generations to come.

What are the most oddly-named Louisiana towns according to the list? Let's find out.

  • Bunkie
  • Cow Island
  • Dry Prong
  • Grosse Tete
  • Keithville
  • Iota
  • Lucky
  • Pollock
  • Quitman
  • Waterproof

Personally, I think a couple of these are weak for a list like this. But that's mainly because I know of so many more municipalities or small communities with even more odd names! Feel free to share your favorites with us.

Nationally, here are some of our favorites that made the list.

  • Booger Hole, West Virginia
  • Satan's Kingdom, Massachusetts
  • Beer Bottle Crossing, Idaho
  • Big Bottom, Washington
  • Worms, South Dakota
  • Ding Dong, Texas
  • Scratch Ankle, Alabama
  • Smartt, Tennessee
  • Frankenstein, Missouri
  • Little Canada, Minnesota
