Troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit in Troop I with the help of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office made a traffic stop and drug bust on Interstate 10.

Officers arrested a Texas man and seized nearly 50 pounds of marijuana.

Just before 2:45 this morning, troopers stopped a 2013 Nissan Maxima for a traffic violation on the eastbound side of the interstate near the Henderson/Cecilia exit.

Troopers became suspicious and requested permission to search 35-year-old Myvar Abdullah's vehicle.

When Abdullah refused, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office's K-9 "Shockey" alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

Troopers and deputies say they found 46 pounds of marijuana concealed in a duffel bag in the trunk of Abdullah's car.

Abdullah was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
