It has not been the best of seasons for the NFC South. (Thank you national media for continually bringing that up.)

But, by attrition, one team will be crowned division champs and for New Orleans Saints fans, we hope it's this Sunday afternoon.

Here are the scenarios for the Saints (6-8) heading into Sunday's big matchup against the Atlanta Falcons (5-9).

  • Saints win on Sunday, then Atlanta is eliminated from the NFC South race
  • Saints win and Carolina (5-8-1) loss, Saints win NFC South
  • Saints win and Carolina win, Saints will need a win in Week 17 against Tampa Bay or a Carolina Week 17 loss

All simple enough, right?

It should be for Head Coach Sean Payton -- his team needs to show up against the league's worst overall ranked defense. If Brees and the boys on offense have a game like they had against the Bears, goodnight Matt Ryan.

However, we all know what a yo-yo season it has been for the boys in Black & Gold. (See last home game against Carolina.)

Let's hope a late season surge is on tap for the Who Dat Nation. I sure think it is. I'm gonna do my best Gus Kattengell and predict a 34-24 Saints victory.
