One of my favorite places, The Grand Opera House of the South in Crowley, opens its 2016-17 season Friday night with performances by Sonny Landreth and Roddie Romero.

If you've never visited this truly unique jewel in south Louisiana's crown, do yourself a favor and plan to attend one of the events this year.

I had the pleasure of serving on the very first board of directors in 2004 when the building was acquired by the Gielen family and renovations had just begun. It would take years and countless hours of work by so many people with energy that far surpassed my own to breathe life back into a building worthy of getting a second chance to show her splendor.

I remember the first time I saw it. It was the late 80's. I had lived in Crowley my whole life and not known that such a place existed above what was then a hardware store. Simply stepping onto the wooden floor, I could see through the stored materials and layers of dust that this was a magnificent place.

I was right.

I will say it again. Do yourself a favor. Take in a show at the Grand Opera House of The South. They offer quality entertainment in a wonderful acoustic, comfortable, beyond-gorgeous setting. Let me know what you think.
