Peanut Butter Jelly Time – Today We Celebrate The Sandwich

Admit it, when you read that headline you started singing didn't you? Peanut Butter and Jelly, if there is a more American, more kid friendly, more comforting sandwich on the planet I have not eaten it. If you've ever seen me, you know I have eaten a lot of sandwiches. Today is Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich Day.

Everybody has had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich moment. Some of us still have those moments on a regular basis. The soft bread, the sweet jelly, the salty peanut  butter and the satisfaction of washing it down with a big gulp of cold milk. Whether it's a snack at midnight, a quick pick me up after school, or even breakfast. There is no bad time for peanut butter and jelly.

We all have our favorite peanut butter. Some folks are Jif, some folks are Peter Pan, some folks are all natural, while others go for whatever is on sale. Then comes the question of crunchy or creamy. It's a debate that could rage longer than life itself. However you like your peanut butter, that's the way it's supposed to be.

For me the jelly needs to be strawberry. I like the Smucker's brand of strawberry personally but I am not averse to other flavors and brands. Sometimes a homemade jelly is actually better. Unless the jelly or jam is some kind of new age goat lip , ragweed, acorn squash concoction, I am going to eat it.
