The love affair between radio broadcasters and fire goes back since the very beginning of the medium. Setting a fire in the control room while one of your fellow broadcasters was on the air was a time honored tradition for my generation. Sometimes we would light the actual script the announcer was attempting to read from just to watch him sweat and see how long he would keep reading until he dropped the "hot copy".

This situation is a little different than an intentional fire but typical DJ behavior if you ask me. The guy reading the news notices a small blaze forming in the control room garbage can. He keeps reading. The blaze gets larger. He keeps reading. The flame start to spread. He keeps reading. You get the idea.
