The injury bug bit the New Orleans Saints today in a big way. Joe Morgan, who was penciled as the #3 wide receiver, is done for the season, as is starting defensive end Kenyon Coleman.

Morgan was injured on the 4th play of Saturday’s scrimmage. The Saints announced today that he has torn meniscus, and a partially torn ACL. He is scheduled for surgery today. Morgan took to his twitter page to express his feelings on the setback.

Coleman is a 10-year veteran who was signed in the offseason after playing for defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in Dallas last year.  Coleman was penciled in as the starting defensive end in the new 3-4 alignment. He left practice yesterday with a chest injury that has been diagnosed as a torn pectoral, and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow.

“These are two players that are significant,” Saints coach Sean Payton said after today’s morning practice. “Obviously they are losses and we’ve got to find some guys that can step up and take their spots.”

In addition to the two season ending injuries, starting running back Pierre Thomas limped off the field with trainers,as did starting outside linebacker Junior Gallette and starting CB Keenan Lewis. None returned to practice, though the injuries didn’t appear to be serious. However, until the Saints release a statement on the status of their health, fans will nervously hope for better news.
