A group of Georgia inmates who helped to save a guard's will be getting a nice reward for their good deed.

Earlier this week, an officer in charge of security for the sheriff's office collapsed during work detail in the midst of high temperatures and 100% humidity.

That's when the inmates jumped into action.

No, they didn't steal his gun, or the van—they helped to save his life.

One inmate took the guard's phone and used it to dial 911. Other inmates removed the officer's bulletproof vest to cool him off and perform CPR. It was at that point that one of the inmates said the officer began breathing "real heavy and fast."

Paramedics arrived and were able to treat the officer and the inmates are being praised for their honorable gesture.

Not only were the inmates treated to lunch and dessert made by the officer's family, Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moates announced he will take off approximately one-fourth of each inmates' sentences.

Anytime we have a trustee or inmate crew, that goes beyond normal duties, we cut them some extra time off

What a good story—and hopefully for everyone, a good ending.
