Liz Anderson, a founding member of the Nashville Songwriters International, and mother of country star Lynn Anderson, passed away in Nashville on Monday. Liz was instrumental in kickstarting the career of Merle Haggard, and also wrote songs for Country Music Hall of Fame members Roy Drusky and Del Reeves. I met Liz Anderson several years ago at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville, and she was around 75 years old and dressed to the hilt in chic cowgirl gear. She was a pioneer in the music industry before women were allowed into"the club". She was awesome.
