The Equal Pay for Women Act passed the La. Senate Wednesday by a 23-13 vote (Roll Call), but not until after a key amendment was added. It was an amendment that met with opposition from the bill's author, but allowed for this "step...to hav(ing) an equal playing field for men and women in all employment," according to Julie Harris with the Legislative Agenda for Women.
With the IRS admitting to targeting conservative groups for audits, and now the subsequent stepping down of acting Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Steven Miller, Minden Congressman Dr. John Fleming (R) says it's now time to audit the IRS.
In a meeting on Wednesday, the state's Revenue Estimating Conference concluded that $155 million more is available for the fiscal year that starts July 1st. This comes as lawmakers in the Senate begin to take a look at the House-approved budget next week.
Lawmakers have rejected amendments made in the La. House Appropriations Committee that stripped almost $500-million in one-time money from the proposed budget.
Rep. Jim Morris' bill, which seeks to be "a hurdle" that blocks the federal government form placing a ban on semi-automatic weapons or having large capacity magazines in Louisiana, is now headed to the La. Senate for committee review.
The bill passed by a 9 to 6 vote on Wednesday, now heading to the La. House floor for more debate.
