If you find yourself traveling one of the major highways across Acadiana this afternoon you will probably notice a major uptick in traffic. Not only will you have local travelers trying to make their way home after work, the interstates will be filled with travelers making their way through the area to their Thanksgiving destinations. One analyst believes this will be the busiest Thanksgiving travel holiday in seven years.

Don Redman, an analyst with the American Automobile Association says there is one major reason so many people will be hitting the road this Thanksgiving.

"Let's don't make any mistake that the idea the past several months we've been seeing the lowest gas prices in almost four years,"

The lower prices for fuel and an overall improvement in the economy has more Americans feeling confident about having money to spend. That confidence translates into more vehicles on the roadway since 90% of Americans on the go this weekend will do so via automobile.

"We're looking at an increase of slightly more than four percent which is almost 2 more million people traveling this year versus last year."

Redmond's comments were reported in a story published by the Louisiana Radio Network. He also says while gas prices may be lower, the cost of hotels and motels are moderately higher compared to last year. So the money you save in gas you might wind up spending on a room for the night.
