Time – Lapse Video Shows Chicago River Turning Green
The city of Chicago has died the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day since 1962, the idea of then - Chicago mayor Richard J. Daley.
The process involves the dumping of a green powder by numerous boats, which then disperse the powder through the water, turning it green.
