The 2017 college softball season came to an end for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Monday afternoon.

14th-ranked Louisiana fell to the top-seeded LSU Tigers, 5-1, at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La., in the championship game of the 2017 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.  .

The triumph, the second in as many days over UL, gave LSU the regional title, and a berth in the NCAA Super Regionals.

The Cajuns beat LSU, 4-2, on Saturday, to advance to the regional championship round for the 10th-consecutive year, after downing the McNeese St. Cowgirls, 6-0, on Friday.

LSU defeated McNeese St., 10-1, to advance to play the Cajuns in the championship round, where they won, 6-1 on Sunday night, before the 5-1 victory on Monday.

The defeat dropped Louisiana’s all-time record in the NCAA Tournament to 73-57, which includes their 19th-consecutive regional, and their 27th in the last 28 years.

With the loss, the Cajuns were denied their 6th-consecutive NCAA Super Regional appearance.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the top half of the first inning, when DJ Sanders doubled home Kara Gremillion, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

LSU took the lead for good in the bottom half of the third inning, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits, including a run-scoring single by Emily Griggs, which gave them a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers scored the final three runs of the contest in the bottom half of the 4th inning, including a 2-run homer off the bat of Sydney Springfield, her 10th of the season, to make it 5-1.

That was all that LSU would need, as they went on to the 4-run win, and the regional crown.
