The 17th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team swept a doubleheader from the Troy Trojans on Saturday in Troy, Alabama, winning the first game, 5-0, before taking the nightcap, 9-0.

The two wins gives Louisiana 25 wins in their last 27 games, and pushes their lead in the loss column to four games over both South Alabama and WKU atop the Sun Belt Conference standings.

In the first game, the Cajuns only had two hits, but one was a grand slam home run off the bat of sophomore outfielder Shellie Landry in the top half of the third inning, as UL scored four unearned runs, to take a 4-0 lead.

Louisiana added another unearned run in the fourth inning, and extended their advantage to 5-0.

That was all the support that Christina Hamilton would need, as the junior right-hander tossed a five-hit shutout, not allowing a walk, while striking out ten hitters, to pick-up her 17th win of year with only one loss

Jaycee Affeldt (7-17), who only allowed two hits, and no earned runs, suffered the loss for Troy.

In the second game, sophomore third baseman Samantha Walsh belted a solo home run in the top of the second inning, giving the Cajuns a 1-0 lead, before Landry hit a clutch two-out, three-run double in the top of the third, giving her seven runs batted in on the afternoon, and giving Louisiana a commanding 4-0 lead.

Louisiana added two more runs in the top of the sixth, and then two more in the top of the seventh, courtesy of solo homers by Walsh, her second of the game, and senior outfielder Shelbi Redfearn, to make it 9-0.

Again, it was Hamilton that was the story in the circle, tossing six more scoreless innings to record her 18th victory of the year against only one defeat.

Ashley Rainey (6-5) suffered the loss for the Trojans.

With the two win, Louisiana improved to 33-7-1, overall, and 13-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Troy fell to 18-27-2, overall, and 2-11 in league play.

the Cajuns return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Waco, Texas for a non-conference doubleheader against Baylor.
