The 13th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team swept a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader from the ULM Warhawks on Saturday at Lamson Park, winning the first game, 8-6, before capturing the nightcap, 7-0, in the first two games of a three-game, weekend, league series.

The series marks the final one of the regular season for both squads.

The two wins extended Louisiana's current win streak to 11 games, and gives them 32 victories over their last 34 games.

In the first game, sophomore third baseman Samantha Walsh blasted a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom half of the seventh inning, to give the Cajuns an 8-6 win.

UL trailed, 6-5 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning, when Haley Hayden walked, before Lexie Elkins followed with a double, to set up the three-run, game-winning shot by Walsh.

For Walsh, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI's, it was her second straight home game with a walk-off homer.

Shellie Landry and Hayden each added two hits apiece, as Louisiana outhit ULM, 11-4.

Christina Hamilton (22-1) recorded the win for Louisiana, allowing four hits and six runs, for her 19th-consecutive victory, while Samantha Hamby (14-14) suffered the loss for ULM.

 

In the second game, Louisiana scored six runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back, en route to the shutout win.

Natalie Fernandez, Hayden, and Lamdry each collected two hits apiece, as the Cajuns outhit the Warhawks, 7-3

Victoria Brown (5-1) was the winning pitcher for the Cajuns, allowing three hits over six scoreless innings, while Hamby (14-15) suffered the loss for the Warhawks.

 

With the two wins, Louisiana improved 40-8-1, overall, and 16-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while ULM fell to 22-24 overall, and 6-13 in league play.

The two teams will wrap-up their respective 2014 regular season schedules on Sunday, in the final game of the series, beginning at 1 o'clock.
