While the early morning temperatures may remind you more of Fall, the afternoon sun will certainly make you think of Spring. Regardless, Spring or Fall, people in South Louisiana love their yards and gardens and we all get excited when we smell the smoke from the grill.

It is supposed to be a beautiful Saturday in Acadiana and as luck would have it we have two offbeat holidays for you to enjoy that will fit right in with the  kind of day we are going to have today.

Weed Appreciation Day: Alright fans of Willie Nelson we are talking about the legal kinds of weeds. The kinds of weeds that have found optimum growing conditions in my yard, your yard, and every crack in every sidewalk in Acadiana. Before you whip out the Round-Up and send those weeds off to meet their maker, take a minute to contemplate their beauty. Let's face it a rose bush in a cornfield is a weed. These plants serve a purpose, their purpose just sometimes doesn't match our expectations. So take a minute to appreciate life before you decapitate it with your weed whacker today.

Something On A Stick Day: Some of the most delicious things you will ever eat will not be served on a plate. They will be delivered to your voracious appetite via the most economical food delivery system ever invented, the stick. Think of all the good stuff you can eat on a stick. Today is the day to celebrate that and whether you're doing corn dogs slathered in mustard, kebabs grilled on a fire, caramel apples all rich and gooey, it's all good.

Maybe you can cover both of these great days in one afternoon. Spend some time in the yard getting to know your weeds, then later today cook something on the grill that requires a stick to serve. I believe that will make for a wonderful Saturday afternoon.
