None of us really like road construction. However, all of us love driving on smooth well maintained roads. You can't have one without the other. Sometimes do forget that those roads are repaired by dedicated people. People who want to go home to their family everyday as much as you do. That's why we here at 97.3 The Dawg are proud to support Work Zone Awareness Week.

Rodney Mallet is a spokesman for Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development and he recently told the Louisiana Radio Network,

"When you're driving down any road and you see people out working, it's just a good time to slow down and be sure you're following the rules of the road,"

Since 2013 a staggering number of people have lost their lives due to accidents in work zones. That staggering number is 580 people. Those accidents could have most likely been  prevented if motorist had been obeying the signs and signals of work crews on the job site.

You may not be aware but penalties and fines for speeding disobeying signs and signals in work zones are significantly higher than they would be for the same offense on a stretch of open road. Drivers have so many distractions in their car these days but that is no excuse for not driving with extra caution while traveling through a work zone.
