32-year-old Tashonty Toney, the son of a New Orleans police officer, has been named the suspect in the case. His bond has been set at $510,000.00.

Two people are dead after a motorist struck them and several others blocks from the Endymion parade route Saturday Evening.

According to a report by WDSU, the New Orleans Police Department said that the fatal crash was reported around 9 p.m. in the 3200 block of Esplanade Avenue in Bayou St. John.

New Orleans police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said that five victims were taken to a hospital in New Orleans, three of which were noted to be in critical condition. Two were pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff.

The ages of the victims have not yet been released by officials.

Police say that there is a suspect in custody.
