Organizers have announced the "2020 Sonic Christmas Parade" has been canceled due to ongoing health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release sent out today, the concern centers around Louisiana's Phase 3 restrictions limiting crowd sizes to no more than 250 people for outdoor events. Being that there's no way to know if we'll still be in Phase 3 by the time the Sonic Christmas Parade gets here, Lafayette Police Dept. cannot issue the proper permits needed for the parade.

Gary Wilkerson, president of Kergan Bros. Sonic says via the press release “This wasn’t an easy decision, but we agree that protecting residents’ health is most important. We look forward to the parade returning next year, and we wish everyone a safe holiday season.”

However, there is some good news.

Kids can still bring their letters to any Lafayette-area SONIC Drive-in, and Sonic will send them to Santa Claus.

Sonic has also given us Santa's address if kids want to send their letters directly to the big guy.
