South Louisiana's holiday weekend is off to a soggy start as events in Broussard, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Mamou, and Morgan City have all been affected by inclement weather conditions. Unfortunately the more "on" than "off" again showers are expected to continue into the evening hours and that could affect the Sun Belt Conference Championship Football Game that is being contested in Lafayette tonight.

The image you see is the National Weather Service Radar scan as of 2:15 on December 7, 2024. No, it does not appear as though today is a great day to be outside but for a lot of folks that is what is on the "dance card".

The first weekend in December is traditionally the most popular weekend for office holiday parties. Many companies in Louisiana have scaled back on "sharing the joy of the season" if you know what I mean. This weekend is also a popular weekend for communities around South Louisiana to host their Christmas Parade.

If you're wondering which towns are celebrating on which days, here is a complete list of Holiday Events all the way through Christmas.

Now, about the cancellations. Our friends at Sonic Drive-in have passed along the unfortunate news that the Lafayette Sonic Christmas Parade has been canceled for Sunday afternoon. The threat of heavy rain is the reason. Our contacts at Sonic said the possibility of rescheduling the event was logistically impossible.

We can certainly understand all the different aspects of crowd control, security, availability of performers, and just the overall aspect of coordinating an event of this magnitude.

Hopefully, next year's forecast will offer better weather for Santa's Official Arrival in Acadiana. And to our friends at Sonic, thank you for your efforts in preparing for this year's parade. We'll be looking forward to next year's event.

One other event planned for Sunday has announced a change of venue. The Youngsville Community Church Songs of Christmas presentation that was scheduled for the gazebo at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville has been moved. The event will now be held at the church which is located at 4129 Verot School Road in Youngsville. The event will begin at 3 pm and will last until 5 pm. There is no admission.

More events may be either postponed or rescheduled over the weekend as the forecast for Sunday is even more concerning than the forecast for Saturday. Do check back with us often.
