Police in Ville Platte have identified a suspect in a Wednesday night shooting that sent a five-year-old child to a Baton Rouge hospital. According to reports, the child was in a car that was fired upon while driving on Edward K. Thomas Street in Ville Platte. A bullet entered the car through the door and struck the child in the leg.

Police Chief Neal Lartigue told KATC the car was then driven to a location on Fruge Street and then the child was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Later in the evening, an Air Med helicopter was called in to transport the child to a hospital in Baton Rouge.

Police in Ville Platte reportedly have a warrant for the arrest of the suspect believed to have fired the shots that injured the child. The name of that suspect is being withheld pending an arrest. This is a developing story and more details are expected to be announced later this morning.
