8 Incredibly Insane Louisiana Urban Legends
I'm sure you read the headline and could only imagine what you would read when you clicked 'read more.' It was the same thought I had while writing it.
This is because being from Louisiana, you never know what kind of crazy you will stumble upon. But once you read about these eight urban legends from right here in the boot, you will understand.
- 1
'Devil Man' of Algiers
Legend has it that a 'devil man' would taunt couples on the streets of Algiers and would send some people into what was called 'temporary death.' He has horns, pink star-shaped ears and eyes you would likely seen in a cartoon.
- 2
Wild Mouse Roller Coaster
I am too young to remember this one. However, reading about this legend out of Baton Rouge just confirms why I don't like roller coasters. Legends says that Wild Mouse roller coaster was a part of the old Fun Fair Park. The coaster is said to be where a rider was decapitated.
- 3
Ellerbe Road School
Caddo Parish's George Washington Carver High, which has long been abandoned, is said to be the sight of children disappearing, a janitor who molested young children, and is just plain haunted. Have you ever been?
- 4
St. Bernard Parish Brain-Eating Amoeba
This one may seen familiar being as it occurred only a few years ago. In 2013, a young boy died from a flesh eating amoeba (Naegleria fowleri) that caused a fatal brain infection. Are the rumors true? Yes, they certainly are.
- 5
The Grunch
Beware the little people! According to legend, little people and those who were considered albino were exiled to a specific place in New Orleans and thoroughly ridiculed. Word on the street is that they became evil and tortured animals. What do you think?
- 6
Tunnels Under LSU
These tunnels are said to be home to many different things, like a secret military base. What about a field office for the CIA? Some go so far as to say the tunnels are haunted by the men who originally built up the mounds in the center of the campus over 5000 years ago.
- 7
Spanish Moon Bar
Although many simply remember it as the popular drinking hole, this bar has quite a creepy past. Legend says that during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, it was used as a temporary morgue. Can you hear the dead calling?

Rougarou
I'm sure you already know that I am talking about the half man/half beast who is said to haunt Louisiana swamps in search of human blood. Here's the trick to saving yourself: always be on your best behavior and never tell anyone if you get scratched by the Loup Garou.
