Acadiana Garage Door Expert Tips
1) Just like the tin man your garage door needs oil. Make sure you use a spray lubricant with a high oil content. Do not use WD-40. WD-40 acts more as a cleaner. And don’t use grease. That will just gunk things up.
So what parts of your door should you spray? Just about everything except the tracks. Spray the rollers, the hinges, and the springs. And do it about 3 or 4 times a year.
2) Here in south Louisiana it rarely gets so cold that it causes major problems. Especially to our garage doors. But we’re having kind of a crazy winter. If your garage door freezes during the cold weather it’s probably due to ice on the bottom of the door. A heater next to the door is usually enough to keep the door free. And keep your door parts lubricated. Lubrication has a high freezing point.
3) Like the rest of your home, your garage door is constantly exposed to the elements. A fresh coat of paint can extend the life of your door. Make sure to use a semi-gloss sheen for easy maintenance. You don't want to paint when it's too cold, too hot or when it's raining. It's also best to avoid painting in direct sunlight or when the door is hot.
