All Clear Given After New Iberia Lock Down

A New Iberia elementary school and a local daycare center were placed on lock down yesterday as a result of police action at a nearby apartment complex. Officials at Daspit Elementary and Little People Place Early Development confirmed their facilities were locked down during the police action.

According to our sources, New Iberia Police were attempting to serve a warrant at an apartment complex which is located near the elementary school and daycare. When the subject of that warrant did not want to cooperate with police the situation escalated.

As of this time, specific details of the warrant of the suspect wanted in connection with that warrant have not been made available. However, the large police presence and the potential of a volatile situation developing were the reasons the nearby schools were placed on lock down during the incident.
