It wasn't that long ago that Acadiana residents were asking where is Spring? Now Acadiana residents are asking, "do you have a tissue". The annual assault of 'yellow fever' also known as allergy season is upon us.

Chances are If you spend anytime outdoors in the next few weeks  you will probably notice a thin yellow film on your sunglasses, cellphone or automobile. That my friend is pollen and that is the reason so many of us are sneezing during the day and snoring at night.

The pollen forecast for Acadiana shows that yesterday's rain did a nice job of cleaning the air. However, the upcoming work week will find a lot of us sniffling and looking for a tissue.  Just about everything that can bloom is blooming or starting to bloom and is spreading it's pollen throughout the area to insure the survival of the species. The problem with pollen is that so many of us are sensitive to it. We react with itchy eyes, stuffy noses and a general feeling of yuck.

What can you do about allergies? The best way to reduce allergy symptoms is reduce your exposure to what's causing your problems. The folks at WebMD have these suggestions.

1, Leave your shoes at the door

2.Wash your hair before bed

3.Keep outside doors and windows closed

4.Use the recirculate feature in your cars air conditioner

5.Change the filters in your furnace or air conditioner at home

They also had a few more ideas that you could check out. The good news is eventually all of this pollen will blow itself out of the area and we'll start to breath a little easier. In the meantime check with your doctor if you symptoms are really bad. There are many nasal sprays and medications that you can use to minimize your allergy issues. It might also be a good idea to wash your car before somebody writes something unsavory in the pollen on your trunk.
