One of the aspects of shopping with Amazon that many consumers often bring up when asked why they prefer to shop online is convenience. Not only is it convenient to order from a telephone or tablet, but the return process with Amazon has always been fairly well defined and structured.

One of the tenets of Amazon's business strategy has always been to make the shopping experience for customers easy and understandable. This includes the company's approach to how returns are handled. They even explain on the Amazon website,

We understand that there may be times when a purchase may not meet your expectations or your needs might change,

Suppose you find that happens to be the case for some of your holiday purchases made through Amazon, then you will want to know that Amazon is actually making it easier for you to return items that did not meet your needs or expectations.

What Is The Major Change in Amazon's Merchandise Return Policy?

Therefore, Amazon is extending the holiday return window. Any purchases made between November 1 and December 31 can be returned to Amazon if they are in the original packaging or in unused condition through January 31, 2026.

The timetable is a little different if you're returning an Apple-branded product. The window for returns on Apple items purchased between November 1 and December 31 is only open until January 15, 2026.

How Long Does It Take for an Amazon Refund to Show Up on Your Account?

You should know that, on average, it could take as long as 30 days for a refund on the returned item to hit your account. The return has to be accepted and approved by the 3rd party seller and Amazon, and once that hurdle has been cleared, your refund will be issued.

There are items purchased from Amazon that you may not return. Here is an almost complete list of those items. We say almost complete, because Amazon sells a lot of stuff, and there might be a particular widget or gadget that you won't find on this list, but still can't return for some reason none of us were aware of.

What Items May Not Be Returned to Amazon?

Here's the list:

** Perishables
** Products that may pose potential health and safety risks once sold
** Products with shipping restrictions
** Customized products made specifically for you
** Redeemable products
** Amazon Pharmacy products
** Pet medication products
** Certain digital products
** Automobiles

Shoppers should also note that some items are marked as "Final Sale"; those items are not returnable and not eligible for a refund.

Other retailers that are offering an extended return window for holiday items purchased include Best Buy, Macy's, Target, Costco, and Walmart. If you follow the links, you'll be directed to those stores' return policies. Happy shopping, hope you'll try to shop at a local store first, it really does make a difference, but if you can only find what you need online, that's understandable.
