Football Announcer Slammed for Comments About Dance Team’s Weight
(KMDL-FM) Saturdays in the fall here in the Deep South are reserved for one thing: college football. You're probably well aware of just how passionate we are about the sport if you've ever spent any time at Tiger Stadium, Navarre Stadium, or Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and Lafayette, respectively.
And while we do love to get together and cheer on the home team while we "jeer on" the opposing fans for the most part, the "trash talk" among those who paid to be in attendance is done with humor, good taste, and is not meant to bring personal harm.

But when the "trash talk" or teasing rises to a higher level, as in the press box and can be heard over the stadium's public address system, there should be "loving limits," to quote Mr. Rogers, in place.
Sure, we all enjoy making fun of our opponents, but when the "fun" goes from joking about efforts on the athletic field to personal attacks about extremely personal topics, then cooler heads have to prevail.

Why Was a College Football Announcer Reprimanded For Comments During a Game?
Apparently, the cooler heads are stepping in and attempting to right an egregious wrong that was leveled at the Alabama State University Dance line, known far and wide as The Honey Beez Dancers.
The Honey Beez entertain the crowd during halftime performances of Alabama State Football Games. However, the public address announcer for Florida A&M took exception to the ladies, and as is usually the case, his attempt at humor has landed him in hot water with a lot of people.
The President of Florida A&M University said her school was taking immediate steps to ensure accountability. And Dr. Quinton Ross, the President of Alabama State University, called the remark distasteful and short-sighted. In his comments, he praised the Honey Beez unit for their dedication to their art and expressed the joy the team brings to fans on game day.
FAMU President Marva B. Johnson issued a statement along with an apology to the Honey Beez, Alabama State, and the fans of the university. In speaking on the actions of the announcer at FAMU, President Johnson said the comments were unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
What Did The FAMU Announcer Say About the Alabama State Dance Line's Weight?
I guess that is the elephant in the room, and for this story to provide you with enough information to formulate an opinion, I do feel obligated to share with you what the FAMU announcer said as they welcomed the Honey Beez and the Alabama State Mighty Marching Hornet band to the field. His introduction called the Honey Beez "the new face of Ozempic".
If you don't get the insult, Ozempic is a popular weight loss drug, and perhaps the announcer felt as though the ladies might consider a discussion with their doctors. It was a totally classless remark, and kudos to Alabama State and FAMU for addressing this issue promptly.
