Minutes into free agency, New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis agreed to sign a 5 year contract extension worth $145 million that kicks in at the start of the 2016-17 season, according to multiple reports. The deal will be made official on July 9th.

Davis wasn't a free agent, but was eligible for a max extension the second free agency began. It only took a few seconds.

A.D., the face of the Pelicans franchise and one of the best players on the planet, tweeted the following picture with his agent Thad Foucher far left, his new head coach Alvin Gentry to his left, and New Orleans general manager Dell Demps to his right.

The 5 year deal has a player option for the final year, meaning Davis could elect to become a free agent in 2020 if he so desires.

Demps and the Pelicans have 5 years to build a contender around Davis and keep him in the Crescent City for his entire career.

Make no mistake, while this news isn't a surprise, it's the biggest contract signing in the history of the franchise.

"Six more years. Take flight."
