Arrest Made In Endymion Parade Crash
Mardi Gras is a time of revelry and fun. It's when people have too much fun that horrible things happen. Such was the case just before 7 PM on Saturday night in New Orleans.
Crowds had lined the streets in anticipation of the Krewe of Endymion parade. That's when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and careened into the crowd. 28 people including a New Orleans Police officer were injured.
Authorities in New Orleans announced the arrest of 25-year-old Neilson Rizzuto in connection with the incident. Initial reports say the Rizzuto was heavily intoxicated. Some reports suggest that his blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit.
The ages of those injured ranged from a 1-year-old child to a person in their 50's. Victims of the crash were transported to various hospitals around the city.
Rizzuto was arrested on the scene. Witnesses describe his demeanor a "totally out of it". He faces multiple charges first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, hit and run driving and reckless driving.
