You may recall the backlash that the Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans received recently for a canceled pro-police promotion called "Blue at the Zoo."

The organization is trying to make amends for that public relations nightmare.

The Audubon Nature Insitute is now planning another appreciation day to show support for the New Orleans Police Department.

Audubon's president and CEO, Ron Forman, apologized on Friday for the "unintended message." He said many in the community viewed the Institute's cancellation of the six-day "Blue at the Zoo" promotion as unsupportive of the police department.

Forman says that was never the intention. He says Audubon and the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation are now putting together a new event in an effort to lift up the law enforcement community.

The Audubon Nature Institute is a New Orleans nonprofit operating the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, and more.
