Bank Explains Why Louisiana Debit Cards Didn’t Work Monday

You drive-thru for a morning cup of coffee at your favorite place in Slidell, and you pay with your debit card. You need some last-minute school supplies for your kid in Ruston, you pay with your debit card. You want to get some cash from the ATM so you can try your luck at a video poker casino in Duson, you pop in your debit card. We use our debit cards a lot in Louisiana.

Most of the time they are quite reliable when it comes to either paying for purchases in a cashless environment. Or, they can be very convenient for withdrawing cash when electronic payments are accepted.  And if we are being honest, the only time our debit card doesn't seem to "work" is when we don't have the money in our accounts to cover the transaction.

Some Louisiana Debit Cards Weren't Working Monday

If you attempted to use your debit card acquired through Regions Bank on Monday you could have encountered an issue with your transactions. The good news is that the issue on the bank's end has now been resolved and you shouldn't have any issue using your card. That is assuming you have funds in the connected account to cover the cost of your transaction.

For the most part, the inconvenience to customers was curtailed by Noon on Monday and a recent check via the Regions Bank online portal suggested that all systems were operating normally again.

Was It a Hack?

According to a report on Al.com Regions Bank says there was no attack or attempted attack on the bank's cyber infrastructure. The issue with debit cards on Monday was tied to a system error which has since been corrected.

Regions did issue an apology via a company spokesperson to their customers and assured those who do business with them that your money is safe and their systems for distributing and protecting your accounts are once again on solid footing.
