If you or someone you know receives benefits from the State of Louisiana in the form of a debit card you might want to pass this friendly warning along from the Louisiana Department of Revenue. That warning is quite simply this, your state issued debit card could make you easy picking for identity thieves. That is because of a security breach reported by J P Morgan Chase Bank last week.

People who get benefits from the state in the form of a debit card for unemployment benefits, child support, STEP supportive services , or child care assistance should maintain a cautious vigil over their accounts and the balances contained on their cards. If you notice suspicious activity you should notify the issuing agency immediately. The number and contact information for the agency responsible for the card and fraud protection should be listed on the back of your card.

It is thought that the security breach at JP Morgan Chase might have exposed sensitive information about Louisiana citizens to those that infiltrated the secured area. No specific details have been released as to what cards or what agencies might have been affected that is why it is so important that card holders maintain a close watch on the funds attached to their debit card accounts.
