Bayou Segnette State Park Reopening Friday After COVID Shutdown

The Louisiana Office of State Parks has announced some exciting news. One of the parks that was used for isolation of people affected by coronavirus will be reopening this week. The parks were used for isolation overflow, in case there were too many patients for area hospitals to accommodate, or for people who tested positive but didn't need hospitalization. Three state parks were designated, and closed to the public early on in the pandemic.

Lake Bistineau State Park has reopened for daytime use only, and Chicot State Park reopened in late June. Bayou Segnette State Park, near Westwego, will open on Friday, August 14, after being fully sanitized ahead of the return of visitors. Reservations are currently being taken for cabins for overnight use. A press release from  Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser states that park hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Visitors are also reminded to follow the CDC guidelines while using Louisiana State Parks facilities.

Louisiana currently has 38 state parks,historic sites and preservation areas that feature world class facilities for the citizens of the Bayou State. They include hiking trails, fishing, and canoe and bike rails.
