Bicyclist Struck on Evangeline Thruway Thursday Night

Lafayette Police were called to the scene of a vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on Thursday evening near the intersection of Chalmette Drive and the Evangeline Thruway. While details are still being gathered preliminary reports indicate a bicyclist was attempting to cross the Evangeline Thruway at that intersection when they were hit by a car.

The incident closed the Thruway at I-49 for several hours while police cleared the accident scene. Police did report that the cyclist was transported to a local hospital. However, the condition of the injured individual was not known at this time.

Lafayette Police are still investigating the crash scene and as of now, details on the identity of the injured or the motorist driving the vehicle have not been released. As of now, no charges have been reported in the incident. However, this is a developing story and more information is expected later today.
