Yesterday, hearts broke all over Acadiana as we learned that brothers, 16-year-old Christian Peltier and 18-year-old Nick Peltier both tragically lost their lives in a vehicle accident Monday morning. Both kids were students at Westgate High School in New Iberia, and Nick was supposed to be graduating last night. KATC reports the ceremony definitely took on a somber tone, and honestly how couldn't it?

During the ceremony, Nick's cousin accepted his diploma for him. She carried his robe and tassels in her arms as she walked to the stage to accept his high school diploma. As she did, the crowd erupted in applause.

Classmate, Valedictorian and friend Lina Sihamath tells KATC -

He was witty and funny. He was a very caring person. I had every class with him leading up to senior year. I saw him yesterday and I smiled at him, but you never really know when it's the last time you'll see someone.

KATC says that Nick and Christian's parents visited the graduates before the ceremony. They passed around a book for everyone to sign and gave out his senior pictures.
