Investigators with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are investigating a double boating fatality that happened over the weekend in Caldwell Parish. It is believed that the individual who was operating the boat at the time the fatal crash occurred may have been under the influence.

Divers with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife say they recovered the bodies of two 15-year-old boys about midnight in Lafourche Lake in Caldwell Parish on Saturday. According to reports, Travis McFarlain of Pine Prarie was operating the 15-foot aluminum craft when it struck a dock. The impact of the crash sent McFarlain and three 15-year-old boys into the water.

LDWF investigators determined that two of the boys were killed after being ejected from the boat. The third boy was transported to a nearby hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition. Following the crash, McFarlain was detained and a breathalyzer test was administered. Reportedly the results of that test showed that McFarlain was above the legal Blood Alcohol Limit to be safely operating the vessel on the water.

Officials with LDWF placed McFarlain under arrest and he was transported to the Caldwell Parish Correctional Center. He has been charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated. He is also facing two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with the incident.
