Brawl Confirmed at Cruise Destination Popular with Louisiana Guests
(KMDL-FM) When Louisiana travelers embark on a cruise of a lifetime journey from ports like the Port of New Orleans or the Port of Galveston, you can bet relaxation is top of mind. No one thinks, "I hope there is a massive brawl on this boat" when they are about to set sail on a vacation of a lifetime.
But if you think about it, a cruise ship is the perfect tender box for chaotic confrontations. You have guests of different social and economic backgrounds. Those guests are "confined" to the limited public spaces available on a cruise ship. And, there is usually free-flowing alcohol. It sounds like the perfect recipe for a bad day, if you ask me.

The folks at Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines know a thing or two about "bad days," that's why one of their cruise stop destinations on many of their Caribbean cruises is at a place called CocoCay. It's the cruise line's private island, and the itinerary stop is usually listed as "A Perfect Day at CocoCay".
What Private Island Does Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Own?
The events of August 3, 2025, would be described as anything but perfect. But one thing you have to realize about "private islands" owned by cruise lines, those destinations are open to all of those lines' ships.
On August 3rd, there were two Royal Caribbean vessels stopped for A Perfect Day at CocoCay. There were guests traveling on the Utopia of the Seas and guests traveling on the Jewel of the Seas. The problem unfolded as guests from both ships were "relaxing" in the pool near the swim-up bar. Hmm, you think alcohol might have been involved?
Here, you can watch for yourself, but be warned, there is violence and Not Safe For Work language that you might hear.
The Oasis Lagoon, the official name of the pool where the fisticuffs took place, was closed for several hours, presumably for cleaning. Many guests not involved in the brawl reported that there was hair and blood in the water.
Some guests reported that they saw other guests being removed by security, but the extent of any charges or repercussions on those guests is not known at this time.
In case you're wondering, behavior clauses are in every cruise agreement, so yes, those guests did sign a document saying they wouldn't "act the donkey" while on the cruise. It is possible that many of those guests could have been removed from the ship. It is also possible that many of those guests will be banned from sailing on Royal Caribbean or any of Royal Caribbean's associated cruise partners.

If you weren't aware, the Royal Caribbean family includes the ships of Celebrity Cruises and Silversea. But other cruise lines might honor a ban if the reasons behind it are egregious enough. For example, getting banned on Royal Caribbean might also get you shunned on Carnival, Norwegian, and MSC.
The bottom line is this: go on a cruise to have fun. Drink your drinks and have fun. If you feel the need to fight, then you need to grow up and learn how to live among regular people. Oh, and don't do these things either.
