Buc-ee’s Big Changes Anger Even the Beaver’s Biggest Fans

(KMDL-FM) There comes a time in every lifetime when those who wished you were here the most now wish you weren't here to begin with. Okay, maybe that's just my personal relationship outcomes, but there does seem to be a similar pattern with American businesses. You can be loved and beloved one day, and the next day you're being vilified for making a decision that you feel will keep you in business longer.

All you have to do is ask the Cracker Barrel folks about "backlash," and they can write a college thesis on the subject. All they wanted to do was streamline their logo. But to the meatloaf-buying, golf tee game jumping public, that was blasphemy.

Kudos to Cracker Barrel for listening to its customers, and now Buc-ee's, the world-famous Texas-based travel center, might have a bit of a conundrum on its hands. No, it's not the logo issue. They are going to court to settle that.

Buc-ee's Changing Pay at the Pump Policy For Customers, Many Are Upset

The issue has to do with filling up at the pump and how you choose to pay for it. This is separate from the "pump your gas then move your car" argument that already fills Buc-ee's fan boards with commenters every day. But I have a sneaking suspicion the new policy adjustment might have been implemented to curtail some of that nonsense.

This new Buc-ee's edict took place on March 1, and it simply says that if you're going to pay for gas using a credit card or a debit card, you pay for it at the pump. I am not really sure why that angers so many so much, but it does.

The store has also announced a policy change that gift cards cannot be used for fuel purchases; they may be used for in-store purchases only. Now that one, I can see why you might get upset.

This guy got mad enough to ditch his entire Buc-ee's portfolio, or at least he dumped a lot of it. Seems like a bad choice, they already got your money, you could at least sell it on eBay to get cash, but that wouldn't have made for as dramatic a video, now would it?

What Is the New Pay at the Pump/ Gift Card Policy For Buc-ee's?

Now you know, Buc-ee's wants you to use your card to buy gas at the pump. Use your gift cards to buy stuff in the store. You can use your cash wherever and whenever you want to, cuz the Beaver still takes that too.

By the way, the Louisiana locations of Buc-ee's Ruston and Lafayette are under construction, with Ruston scheduled to open early next year and Lafayette shortly thereafter. At least that's the plan for now.
