Buc-ee’s Confirms Lafayette Ground Breaking Date

(KMDL-FM) Evidently, there is digging in the dirt, and there is "official" digging in the dirt. The folks at Buc-ee's, the Texas-based travel center taking the country and world by storm, have announced they will officially break ground on the I-10 location in Lafayette in early November.

The official date for the groundbreaking ceremonies will be November 9th. Ceremonies will begin at 11 am at the site of the future Lafayette Buc-ee's, which is I-10 at Louisiana Avenue.

Lafayette Buc-ee's Will Be Second Location in the State

When completed, the Lafayette Buc-ee's would be the second location of the massive travel center brand to be operating in Louisiana. The first Buc-ee's in Louisiana is slated to open in Ruston later this year. That travel center will serve customers along Louisiana's I-20  corridor.

Mayor of Ruston, Louisiana, Ronny Walker told KEEL Radio in Shreveport that the Ruston Buc-ee's location is on target to open its doors in late April or early May. The massive travel center is expected to bring some 350 jobs to the region.

The latest construction report from Ruston suggested that the parking lot was fully paved and that work inside the travel center is well underway. If the Ruston Buc-ee's operates like other new Buc-ee's, we should hear about a job fair or hiring event in the next month or so.

When Will Buc-ee's Begin Hiring for the I-10 Lafayette Location?

In the past, Buc-ee's has begun filling positions at new locations about six months ahead of the planned opening, so that assumption is probably not too far off the mark. Meanwhile in Lafayette, economic development officials say the I-10 Buc-ee's should create about 150 new jobs with an average pay rate of $17 per hour.
