The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns rallied late, but couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to Tulane, 6-4 before 4,910 at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The Cajuns (11-8) trailed 6-1 going into the seventh, but came alive with a pair of runs on Joe Robbins' two run homer and added another in the eighth on an RBI single by Brenn Conrad.  But Brandon Issa came in to retire five straight batters to end the game.  It was Issa's first save of the season.

Tulane (8-13) got on the board in the first inning off starter Jevin Huval (0-1), giving up a leadoff double to Grant Weatherspoon and singles to Hunter Williams and Jaret DeHart, giving the Wave a 1-0 lead.  Kody Hoese bunted, and Huval threw the force attempt into left field, scoring the second run.  A ground ball and sacrifice fly scored runs to give Tulane a 4-0 lead.  Only one of the runs was earned.

"We just can't make mistakes like that," head coach Tony Robichaux said.  It moved runners up and let them score runs on outs.  If we make a play we're out of the inning with one run."

The Cajuns got an infield hit from Robbins in the bottom of the inning off starter Ted Andrews.  Todd Lott walked and, with two out, Kennon Fontenot was hit by a pitch.  Steven Sensley walked to force in a run, but Sam Bjorngjeld (1-2) got Conrad on a ground ball to end further damage.

Tulane added a pair of runs in the third inning on a pair of sacrifice flies off reliever Evan Guillory to end their scoring.

"I liked what our bullpen did tonight," Robichaux said.  "Colton (Lee) did a great job for two innings and then two freshmen (Hayden Erbe and Jacob Norman) were really good. But again, we only scored one run in the first six innings and they gave us that one.  But I was happy to see us compete at the plate and show some life late."

Tulane did not get a hit after a leadoff single in the fourth inning.  Cajun pitchers gave up six hits and struck out nine.

Robbins had three hits to lead the Cajuns' nine hit attack.  Conrad added a pair of singles.  Tremaine Spears got his first collegiate hit with a single in the seventh inning.

The Cajuns now hit the road for a three game Sun Belt Conference series at Troy.  Game times are 6:00 Friday, 3:00 Saturday and 1:00 Sunday.  All three games can be heard on 96.5 KPEL-FM.
